Hi, I’m MK.
There’s a story behind these roots.

I’m Melissa, the woman behind MKRoots. You may know me as MK. I’m a hairstylist, salon owner and educator with nearly 10 years of experience behind the chair. MKRoots brings together everything I’ve learned about hair, confidence and caring for the person sitting in front of me.

For me, hair is personal. It is the confidence of a style that feels like you, the trust you place in your stylist, and the comfort of knowing someone is paying attention.

Small beginnings. Deep roots.

It started in the corner of my university living room.

Before there was a storefront or a team, there was me, doing hair in the corner of my university living room. I started as a one-woman show, taking care of the styling, the bookings and everything that came with building a business. That little corner was the beginning of MKRoots.

Over nearly 10 years in the industry, I’ve grown as a stylist and as a person. Every appointment has given me an opportunity to refine my craft, understand different hair needs and earn the trust of the women in my chair. The experience I bring today has been built through years of hands-on work and a commitment to getting better.

The journey has not been easy. It has stretched me, taught me patience and humbled me in ways I never expected. There is a lot behind the finished hairstyles and beautiful photos, and I’m proud of the work it has taken to get here.

Growing, rebuilding, becoming

More than a salon. A journey I’m still living.

What began with just me has grown into a team of stylists and a storefront of our own. Learning to lead a team while continuing to care for my clients has been another part of that growth. I’m grateful to work alongside people who bring their own skill and care to the MKRoots experience.

In October 2025, a fire closed our Mississauga salon. Having to start again after working so hard to build that space was one of the most difficult chapters of this journey. There were clients to support, a team to think about and a future to rebuild.

With faith, the support of our community and the determination to keep going, we found our next chapter. In January 2026, we relocated to our new storefront in Etobicoke.

The care behind the finish

Beautiful hair starts with listening.

My expertise is in sew-ins, glueless closure techniques and bridal styling, alongside helping clients choose premium bundles and wigs that suit their look. Nearly a decade behind the chair has shaped both my technique and the way I approach each appointment. I have a particular focus on low tension options and supporting women navigating hair loss or delicate hairlines.

Every client brings a different starting point. We take the time to discuss your hair, your goals and a suitable approach. That care matters just as much as the finished look.

Through private education, I also share the preparation, technique and attention to detail behind the MKRoots experience.
